Risk Behavior Survey
In 2013 the Coalition for a Better Wallingford in partnership with the Wallingford Department of Youth and Social Services and the Wallingford Public Schools conducted our first ever Risk Behavior Survey. The survey asked all students in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade in both high schools questions on topics pertaining to general health, motor vehicle safety, injury and violence, alcohol use, substance use and abuse, sexual behaviors and weight issues. The results of the 2013 Risk Behavior Survey were eye opening and provided a wide range of information about Wallingford High School student's behaviors and health.
Beginning in the Fall of 2013 through the Spring of 2015, areas of concern over substance use and safety were responded to through the cooperative efforts of: Wallingford School District Wellness Committee, Coalition for a Better Wallingford, Wallingford Police Department, Wallingford Department of Youth and Social Services, Wallingford Health Department, Wallingford Department of Parks and Recreation, Wallingford System Wide P.T.A.C, Committee on Underage Drinking, Wallingford Elks Club, and the Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW).
In September, 2015, the CT Youth Risk Survey was administered for a second time. One thousand six hundred and eighty two students participated. Again, the survey was administered and the results tabulated by Celeste Jorge, CT State Department of Health. The data below reflects positive changes as well as continuing concern in youth behavior in areas that were specifically addressed through programs and activities that through collaborative work that took place.

A child’s level of health, safety and personal satisfaction is established and developed in direct proportion to his or her connection to their parents/caregivers. To that end we included a series of questions in the 2015 survey specifically related to the family connectedness and after-school activities.
The Wallingford School Survey Questionnaire was filled out by middle and high school students.

Survey Results
This is the most current and accurate version of the Wallingford Health/Risk Behaviors Survey conducted with our high school aged kids. We intend to further investigate cross-correlating data and welcome a dialogue concerning this data. The goal is to affect behaviors positively so high risk activities are diminished. We all play a role in this endeavor.
